The last few days we had the most awesome weather and really enjoyed some excellent fishing. Most days were sea going days and we made the most of every minute with some remarkable catches.

Our overseas visitors were clearly delighted with the variety and size of the fish they landed, and local anglers also joined in with gusto. With the birds diving all over the place we managed a few nice catches of bonito and skipjack close inshore while we waited for the water behind the 12 mile bank to get a bit warmer again.

Good catches included cob, geelbek, red stumpnose, dassie, white stump and red roman as well as a variety of shark species. On the first trip in a few days to the 12 mile bank on Monday a 10 year old angler managed to land a 30kg blue shark, an experience he will never forget.

With the weather playing along nicely and the sea being flat an calm we ventured out to the 12 mile bank again on Thursday and were pleasantly surprised by an excellent catch of yellowtail, yellowfin tuna and skipjacks. This was the first decent catch of yellowtail in Struisbaai for more than a month and we are looking forward to more of these stunning fish over the weekend.
