A great variety of fish species can be found in the fertile warm waters around Struisbaai, Agulhas and Arniston. With deep sea fishing trips to well known fishing spots like Vlakbank, Groot Sandkop, Saxons Reef, 12 Mile Bank, Blougansie, Die Walle and Arniston,you can expect the unexpected.

Marlin, both Striped and Black, roam the warm oceans at the 12 Mile Bank and Alphard Banks, and the area produced an African record Striped Marlin. In the last Two Oceans Marlin tournament 12 Marlin were caught and 66 strikes recorded.

Yellowtail is one of the premier game fish and one of the hardest fighting fish on a line. The oceans around Struisbaai is a well known angling spot for this fantastic sport fish.

Giant Kob in excess of 35kg's are regularly caught of the boats in this area. Smaller but more tastier kob are targeted at the shallower reefs and provides endless pleasure, not on ly while catching, but also when eating.

One of the most tenacious bottom fish has made it's home off the deeper banks. The red steenbras is a powerful predator, common in deeper waters around rocky reefs. It is an active, agressive species and feeds voraciously on smaller fish.

The beautiful red stumpnose occurs troughout the year, but is especially abundant from February to October. It is a solitary species and individuals frequent offshore reefs to depths of 150 m. The South African junior light tackle record was caught of our boat!

The red roman is known for being one of the most gluttonous fish in the sea. They will attack bait intended for bigger and gamer fish with great enthusiasm, and on top of that is one of the most delicious table fish with a distinctive taste.

This Garrick is a coastal species that prefer the wave zone where it forms small shoals wich hunt along the surf backline off beaches and rocky points. It is one of the most agressive fish predators and are regularly caught while trolling just behind the wave zone.

The Bronze Whaler (Bronzie/Copper Shark) is an excellent shark for light and medium tackle enthusiast and puts up a tremendous fight when hooked. This is normally a shallow water shark, but has been found in waters up to 100m.

Called the Ragged Tooth, or "Raggie", in South Africa, it is well-known for its staring yellow eyes and a mouthful of the wickedest-looking teeth in sharkdom. All the raggies in the Waterfront Aquarium were captured here.

Other fish that can be expected to come and inspect your bait can include skipjack, santer, willdeperd, cape salmon, tope shark, rays, hottentot and musselcrakers.
