On Monday we deided to head to the 12 Mile Bank off Agulhas as a strong westerly wind was predicted for later that day and that would make for a difficult run back to the harbour from any other fishing spot. As we left the harbour we were greeted by a few playful dolphins that followed the boats for a short while.
On our arrival at the bank we spotted quite a bit of bird action, and with the clear blue water touching 20 degrees we put out some Halco lures and a few feathers hoping for yellowtail or some bonnies to come along. We trolled for about 15 minutes in the direction of the birds milling about, and the next minute the water around the boat was alive with colour as a school of Dorado and Yellowtail suddenly appeared all around us.

We had a short 3 hour trip booked with 6 youngsters ranging from 4-10 and their 3 dads in attendance on Awesome Too and decided to take them to a nice fishing spot past the wreck of the Oriental Poneer for some fishing.
The kids enjoyed the run to the fishing spots with yells of laughter every time we went over the swells. Their faces were all filled with joy at the experience, and it was agreed that no fun fair rides could compete with this experience of a boat racing across the sea (even at a sedate 30 kph)

We had a flying start to the fishing at Skipskop on Sunday when both the Awesome boats left Struisbaai harbour early the morning on a fast run on flat seas to the fishing grounds at Skipskop. With reports of nice Cob and Cape Salmon being caught we headed for the first marker where we new these fine fish tend to congrgate, and on our arrival we saw another boat already pulling in the fish.
Our skipper found the fish on the Lowrance and we dropped anchor, got the lines in the water and almost immediately the first fine Cape Salmon (Geelbek) was on the hook and boated. We fished the area for an hour or so, landing a few legal sized fish and also returned quite a few undersized fish to the water.

The last two trips by Awesome Charters to the deeper reefs behind the 12 mile bank turned out to be very successful and we boated a lot of fish.
With the weather playing along nicely, and making use of local fishing knowledge and over 30 years experience by the two skippers, we managed to find a lot of great fish every time we went out.
In between the fish we caught and kept we also released a lot of juvenile red steenbras and smaller red stumpnose. All the anglers on board really enjoyed the experience and screams of joy was not an uncommon occurence on the Awesome Charter boats as the one nice fish after the other was hooked, played and brought aboard.

On a choppy sea we headed out to our favourite fishing spots in the hope of getting siome decent fish to kick of the summer season. Our main target species was black musselcracker aka poenskop aka black steenbras. These hardy fighters are difficult to catch as they tend to make a beeline straight for their holes once hooked, but we had a chance to visit their favourite hangout and was not going to let that slip by.
