stephanie_awesome026 Friday was a stunning day at Struisbaai with the weather predictions for an even better day later on and we decided to take the kids for a day on the water. A little bit of wind still caused some chop but that died down very soon and we had an awesome day.

The kids, and the grown ups, quickly got stuck into some nice bottom fish like red roman, red stumpnose, wildeperd and blacktails. In between this we also caught an assortment of spiny dogfish and barbel. Two of the youngster teamed up against a big ray that was hooked on a light rod, relieving each other every few minutes, but they eventually lost the fight after 45 minutes when the line parted. A few smaller bronze whalers and tope sharks also gave them a good run on the light tackle.

fishing_agulhas006 The last few weeks the fishing was absolutely amazing with a wide variety of game fish being landed.

With a lot of bait fish in the water and the birds showing us the bait balls and schools of anchovie and mackerel we have been able to land a lot of stunning fish.

The skipjacks are all over the place, and below them the yellowfin tuna and yellowtail are hunting together. Nice yellowfin tuna in the 12-20 kg class with a few fish over 30 kg have been brought to gaff.

The yellowtail are mostly caught on vertical jig and it is such a super sight to see them coming up from the bottom, chasing the jigs all the way and then making a grab, or attacking the jigs as it is dropped down, putting up a mean fight.

christiaan_skipjack For the past 3 weeks we have managed to boat a lot of skipjack tuna as well as nice yellowfin tuna in the 15 - 20 kg class. We have been watching the birds working the water all over, and a few Minke whales have also joined in the feeding frenzy.

There is a tremendous amount of baitfish in the water and a lot of predators chasing them. On the 12 mile bank the lures are attacked every few 100m and in between the smaller skippies we get nailed by the fast yellowfins, providing a lot of action to the anglers on board.

Every now and then we still get some Dorado as well and even some yellowtail. As I am writing this I received a call telling me the yellowfins are biting close inshore and even the smaller boats can get to them.

This all bodes well for a super Easter weekend. We still have some space available on our boats, so feel free to contact us for a great fishing experience.
